Zeppelin iPod Speakers: Great Sound, Unique Looks, Sky-High Price

This system sounds far better than any one-piece stereo speaker system has the right to sound. Its stereo separation is surprising given the proximity of the left and right speakers. It all adds up to excellent sound reproduction. At nearly $600, they're quite costly, but for that, you get surprising good sound as well as a very unique look.

Free Report from Keynote Systems 2007 Trends and Observations of the Mobile and Connected World examines how technologies, from the Web to the mobile phone, are specifically impacting key vertical industries, from financial services to new media. Download yours here.

Northwestern edges men's basketball in exhibition

When word started to spread about men's basketball's exhibition game at Northwestern, us sports fans at the Maroon began planning the Evanston Invasion. Our team was headed to the big time of collegiate sports, and just as the squad was eager to show it could keep up with D-I opponents, we were eager to show our worth as fans.

On paper, the matchup looked pretty even-keeled. There was the DI–DIII divide, but the Wildcats went 13–18 overall last year with a 2–14 Big Ten record, while the 2006–2007 Maroons posted a 20–6, 11–3 mark en route to a NCAA bid and a shared UAA title.

This would be a ball game as well as an opportunity to showcase both the grit of athletes and phanatix from the campus where fun famously comes to die.

Admittedly, the mystique of traveling up to D-I territory might have gone to my head a bit.

Policeman apologises for death of football fan

An Italian policeman accused of killing a football fan on Sunday was placed under formal investigation for manslaughter yesterday. Riots broke out at football grounds across Italy after a highway patrol officer shot Gabriele Sandri, a Lazio fan, at a motorway service station in Tuscany.

As magistrates in Arezzo laid charges against the policeman, it emerged that Italian football could be suspended for weeks if a proposal by the Sports minister, Giovanna Melandri, is adopted by football's governing body. Stewards will also be placed in grounds for the first time, and violent fans barred from away matches.

The worst unrest, seen on television around the world, occurred outside the Olympic Stadium in Rome, where the night game had been cancelled. Fans angry over the killing of Mr Sandri laid siege to a police barracks, injuring 40 officers inside, and vandalised cars, motorcycles and rubbish bins.

Villa riding into American civil war at Anfield

Civil war may be about to erupt on Merseyside. A rift between Liverpool's American owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett, threatens to tear the club apart while the future of manager Rafael Benitez is unclear and crowd demonstrations loom.

Anfield is certainly not an harmonious place to be this evening. Contrast that with life at Villa Park where manager Martin O'Neill and the Aston Villa supporters have found having a new multi-million American owner a far more pleasurable and rewarding experience.

The two sides meet tonight in what many are calling a Premier League six-pointer and while the Villa manager refuses to comment on the situation involving the Liverpool board, he is happy to pay tribute to his very own American idol.

And he hopes to reward Randy Lerner's support with victory over the Reds a feat Villa have not managed at Anfield since 2001 and a result which would give Villa's European aspirations a huge lift.

Mayor's interview on WMXD-FM

KK: My wife is absolutely amazing, I can't really talk about it without crying, so let me just say that, she's unbelievable. She's been unbelievable throughout this process. I love her, she loves me. We're prayerful, we're constantly submitting to will and we are continuing to move forward. She's the greatest mom ever, you know I've got the mic, she's continuing to do what she does and this has been absolutely amazing, eye-opening and transformational for me to watch that.

FD: You spoke about first lady being a mom, you talked about at your presentation Wednesday evening, you talked about having to have a discussion with your children.

KK: Toughest discussion I have ever had to have. You know 12-year-old boys. I asked them to get in the car with me and we went for a drive.

YouCastr empowers amateur sports commentators

Watch out, WEEI. A Boston start-up is launching an Internet service that allows anyone to ape a radio sports talk-show host or mimic a color commentator covering the big game.

According to YouCastr Corp., its technology creates a "real-time, interactive global sports broadcasting network," and the stars of that network could be you.

In other words, anyone who thinks Tim McCarver is a pretentious gasbag can now offer their own World Series commentary. (Think of it as wannabe jock chroniclers engaging in real-time audio blogging.)

"With YouCastr, anyone can become a sports broadcaster," the company said in a press release. "On the simple, yet powerful website, users can easily broadcast live commentary on sporting events and create shows about their favorite local, high-school, college, and pro teams."

What's more, the YouCastr platform allows "broadcasters and listeners to interact live while simultaneously watching or listening to sporting events."

All that's needed is a personal computer, or a laptop, with a microphone and an Internet connection, the company says, and you too can sit in front of your TV while the game's on and offer commentary on the Bruins getting thrashed one more time by those dastardly Habs of Montreal.
