Helton's aim for now is to keep status quo

Villeneuve might return if he can find a sponsor, the team said.

"We know that Jacques has the talent and the desire to be in NASCAR, and are diligently working on a long-term relationship with him," team owner Bill Davis said in the statement.

Villeneuve, 36, debuted in the then-Nextel Cup series in October at Talladega, finishing 21st. He crashed Thursday in the Gatorade Duels, ending his bid for a spot on the grid for today.

KENSETH SEARCHING: Matt Kenseth, who starts 28th today, was left shrugging his shoulders after more than an hour of effort in Saturday's practice.

Is his Ford ready to contend?

"We'll be able to tell you (today), I guess," the 2003 Cup champion said. "We were just working on our handling. We've been quite a bit off, and we seemed to find a couple of things that helped it.

Akali rebels in no mood to reconcile

The Shiromani Akali Dal may have kicked off an intense campaign in a number of Assembly segments in Ludhiana district, but, like in other parts of the state, it has to counter powerful and influential rebels in several segments. Some prominent leaders of the party who were denied ticket were conspicuous by their absence at today's rally here, indicating that they were in no mood to reconcile. The SAD is likely to face serious rebellion in Jagraon, Ludhiana (rural), Payal and Ludhiana West.

In Jagraon, where the party renominated Mr Bagh Singh Mallah for the third consecutive time, the supporters of Mr Amrik Singh Aliwal are up in arms. Mr Aliwal, a two-time MP from Ludhiana, had been promised ticket in Assembly elections when the SAD allotted ticket to his arch rival (within the SAD), Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon.

Miller, Sabres blank Panthers

I mean I've had 20 of those (scoring chances) already this year and that's the first one I got in. So, it was nice but, like I said, I'm more worried about winning. That's three in a row and we'll go for four in Atlanta."

Tomas Vokoun stopped 40-of-41 shots for the Panthers, who have dropped two straight and six of eight overall. Florida played its 29th one-goal game of the season, falling to 13-11-5.

The Panthers, though in fourth place, remain just five points back of idle Carolina for first place in the Southeast Division.

In the dying seconds of the first period, Florida's Richard Zednik was sent to the penalty box for a holding the stick infraction. The power play carried over to the middle frame, where the Sabres took full advantage.

Vokoun stopped Jason Pominville's blast from the point, but Vanek scooped up the rebound and deposited the puck in the back of the net 40 seconds into the frame.

Residents describe meteor sighting

My first thought was a plane explosion," Baldo said, who lives on the east side of town. "It was about where I see Horizon planes. It was a flash and then it was gone."

She felt, rather than heard, the sonic boom which accompanied the meteor because she was listening to a book on her MP3 player.

"I felt a jolt," Baldo recalled. "It was so fast, it startled you" she said of the flash of light.

Hermiston resident Gary Lovell said he saw a blue-turquoise light about 5:45 a.m. outside of the doors on his house off of W. Punkin Center Road. The light Lovell saw, however, was slow.

"That's what intrigued me, it took a long time before the light disappeared," Lovell said.

He heard a distant sonic boom, but his wife, Caroleen, who was in another part of the house at the time, heard and saw nothing.

Kia Sephia Fender: Delivering Style and Performance

When the Korean automaker Kia introduced the first Sephia in the US in 1994, the brands main focus was on creating an economical option for the American market. With the combination of a low base price, high fuel economy, and commendable handling, the Kia Sephia entered the car scene as an ideal product for city commuters. However, its practicality has been unable to escape certain negative observations and feedbacks. Indeed, some have criticized the Sephias noise at high speed, its easily wounded plastic interior, not to mention its frail exterior that surprisingly wears out fast.

As answer to these grumblings, Kia gradually but efficiently overhauled and improved the Sephia model. In doing this, Kia partnered with the best technological firms. Those included Lotus Engineering of England and Getrag of Germany.

IT Who Needs Due Process? Senate Passes Spy Bill

U.S. Senate to telecoms -- I'll scratch your back, if you scratch mine. Telecoms and many in the federal Executive branch seemed quite content with the increased usage of warrantless phone surveillance, which some people feel violates Americans' legal rights. The telecoms received large paychecks for every wiretap put in place; Comcast's rate was a modest $1,000 per tap. Meanwhile, politicians are happy because they were able to extend their surveillance programs as planned. The program may toss due process out the window, but, in their opinion, that is a necessary loss to deal with today's troubled world. Then all of a sudden the good times ended, when a few members of Congress demanded telecom's spy records for hearings on the legality of the program. The phone companies refused, and all of a sudden, their dirty laundry was aired to the public. The public exposure opened the NSA and telecoms up to legal action from civil liberties groups and citizens. Sure enough, the Electronic Frontier Foundation filed for a class action lawsuit for the warrantless eavesdropping practices. Such a lawsuit could cost telecoms and the U.S.

Charlize Theron gets Hasty Pudding parade into gear

Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron took matters into her own hands this afternoon to get the Hasty Pudding parade into gear. "I am Woman of the Year," she announced as they loaded into a rust-colored Bentley convertible. "If there was any question about me being a man, this should erase it." (Actually, we thought some of her recent Oscar gowns cleared that up nicely. Thank you.) As the caravan began its slow trek west on Massachusetts Avenue, Theron got a few smooches by the cross-dressing zanies of the Hasty Pudding Theatricals. When one of the Harvard undergrad's wigs fell off, Theron quipped: "What? You're a man?" As her car crossed passed a three-story brick building at the corner of Plimpton Street and Mass. Avenue, Theron spotted a few guys perched on a balcony and yelled: "Take it off." One of the men happily obliged -- lifting his shirt to reveal a hairy mess.

Clinton to Obama: 'Shame on you'

In late January, leading up to Super Tuesday contests on February 5, the Clinton camp said Obama mailings distributed in Connecticut took Clinton's statement about her Iraq war vote out of context.

The Obama flier said the New York senator had admitted voting in favor of the war even though she had not read an intelligence report that cast doubt on claims that Saddam Hussein's government possessed weapons of mass destruction.

The Clinton campaign called the mailer misleading, saying only "a handful of senators" had read the report itself -- and that most, like Clinton, had instead opted for a briefing by the report's authors.

Obama has accused both Clinton and her husband of engaging in unfair attacks.
