| Porsche to recall 2,561 Cayenne SUVs in China
BEIJING, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Luxury automaker Porsche has started a recall of 2,561 of its Cayenne sport utility vehicles (SUV), Chinese officials said here in a circular on Tuesday. According to the General Administration of Quality Supervisio n, Inspection and Quarantine, the vehicle's fuel line came into contact with the engine block while the car was being driven, The contact could cause a knocking sound and leave abrasions on the fuel line, which could lead to fuel leaks, the circular said. The automaker said that it would repair the fuel lines for free. The recall will last for 12 months. To date, no injuries or accidents had been reported due to the defect, it said. Due to the problem, the automaker will recall nearly 19,000 Cayennes worldwide, according to media reports.
Valley man may have deed to part of Las Lomas site
A California lawmaker and Los Angeles city officials are calling for an investigation into whether Las Lomas President Dan S. Palmer Jr. broke the law when he signed documents saying he owned all 555 acres he is seeking to develop into a mini-city near Santa Clarita. Los Angeles City Councilman Greig Smith and Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita, said they are asking the state attorney general, state Department of Real Estate and Los Angeles County district attorney to investigate whether Palmer committed perjury or fraud. Their call follows a county Board of Supervisors vote Tuesday to look into who actually owns the land under the 5,553-home development proposed for the last swath of open space between Santa Clarita and the city of Los Angeles. Palmer signed county and city land-use applications saying he was the owner of the property.

Egypt's Minister of Communications and Information Technology on Wednesday formed an emergency task force to fix a cable that cut off Internet services and international communications in the Middle East. In the U.S., this outage abroad wouldn't be a big deal–until your customer service operations mostly housed offshore go down. Dr. Tarek Kamel, Egypt's minister of communications and IT, said his group is working on finding "alternative communication channels" and rerouting call centers to other undersea cables. According to Egypt's assessment, the country had a 70 percent Internet outage and international communications at offshore call centers were impacted by about 30 percent.

A winter storm warning for DeKalb County is in effect until noon Tuesday. By 6 p.m., a rain and sleet mix will become snow and around six inches are expected to fall by midday Tuesday, according to Northern Illinois University meteorologist Gilbert Sebenste. The National Weather Service predicts wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph as temperatures drop throughout the region.Parking is prohibited in marked DeKalb city snow routes between 5 p.m. Monday and 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to a release from DeKalb Public Works. Fines for parking in snow routes during snowfall of two inches or greater is a minimum $75, not including towing and storage costs.Residents are encouraged to park off-street through the storm, and to refrain from parking on streets that are not marked as snow routes so plows can clear streets more quickly, according to the release.Motorists should use caution while driving during the storm.
Mini-van strikes pole, sending 4 to YRMC
Two of four children injured in a Wednesday morning car accident were flown to Phoenix for treatment of serious injuries, while two others were being treated at Yuma Regional Medical Center, Yuma police said. The children were injured when a southbound minivan driven by Carlos Robles, 27, crossed over into northbound lanes of 4th Avenue and struck a light pole in the 1200 block shortly after 8 a.m., Yuma police said. After striking the pole, the van hit a fence encircling Sergio's House of Carpets at 1245 S. 4th Ave. The impact knocked the pole down onto the sidewalk. The four children, whose names were not available, were all under the age of 5, according to police. "Whether child safety restraints were in use at the time is still under investigation," said Clint Norred, police spokesman.
