Carolina Place Mall bandits caught on tape 7:04 AM

PINEVILLE, N.C. -- One suspect is behind bars and another is on the run after stealing more than $10,000 worth of clothing from Carolina Place Mall. Investigators say the two could be connected to other crimes in separate states.

Imagine this: two suspects go running from the mall with bags of stolen clothes. A witness told me the suspects ran into a mini van, stashed their bags, and then calmly walked back into the mall as if nothing had happened.

Surveillance video shows the two suspects running through the parking to their mini-van.

"The guy was literally running I mean he was getting it across the parking lot," said Chrystal Helms, witness.

Helms says she was shocked to see what looked like a thief making an escape, but she couldn't believe what he did next.

Policeman apologises for death of football fan

An Italian policeman accused of killing a football fan on Sunday was placed under formal investigation for manslaughter yesterday. Riots broke out at football grounds across Italy after a highway patrol officer shot Gabriele Sandri, a Lazio fan, at a motorway service station in Tuscany.

As magistrates in Arezzo laid charges against the policeman, it emerged that Italian football could be suspended for weeks if a proposal by the Sports minister, Giovanna Melandri, is adopted by football's governing body. Stewards will also be placed in grounds for the first time, and violent fans barred from away matches.

The worst unrest, seen on television around the world, occurred outside the Olympic Stadium in Rome, where the night game had been cancelled. Fans angry over the killing of Mr Sandri laid siege to a police barracks, injuring 40 officers inside, and vandalised cars, motorcycles and rubbish bins.

Economical Hyundai Elantra PZEV is best value in midsize class

The Elantra GLS is a relatively inexpensive, high-quality car with a base price of $13,625. Compare that with base prices for the Ford Focus ($14,705), Honda Civic ($14,810), Suzuki SX4 ($14,770) or Toyota Corolla ($15,250).

It was a good drive as test drives go. The Elantra GLS PZEV proved competent on Marin County's twisting, winding roads. Its handling was sure, albeit lacking the precision that some throttle jockeys demand in everything, including minivans. But drivers mindful and accepting of the fact that the Elantra is an economy car meant to be used as an economy car will find little to complain about with this one.

It is the genuine article, much as the Miwok Indians who once lived in, loved and honored this place were genuine articles, real examples of how humans, if left to the better angels of their nature, could live in peace with their environment.

Mini-van strikes pole, sending 4 to YRMC

Two of four children injured in a Wednesday morning car accident were flown to Phoenix for treatment of serious injuries, while two others were being treated at Yuma Regional Medical Center, Yuma police said. The children were injured when a southbound minivan driven by Carlos Robles, 27, crossed over into northbound lanes of 4th Avenue and struck a light pole in the 1200 block shortly after 8 a.m., Yuma police said. After striking the pole, the van hit a fence encircling Sergio's House of Carpets at 1245 S. 4th Ave. The impact knocked the pole down onto the sidewalk. The four children, whose names were not available, were all under the age of 5, according to police. "Whether child safety restraints were in use at the time is still under investigation," said Clint Norred, police spokesman.

Super a step toward Buick's Lexus dreams

When Buick grows up, it wants to be Lexus.

Or at least the "American Lexus," according to Bob Casparian, product manager for the Buick LaCrosse sedan. To achieve this, Buick is focusing on a premium image. It also helps that only a few weeks ago J.D. Power and Associates reported that Buick tied with Lexus for first in its annual dependability study among car owners.

For 2005, LaCrosse replaced the Buick Century and Regal as the midsize, front-wheel-drive sedan offering. For 2006, Lucerne took the place of Park Avenue and LeSabre in the full-size, FWD segment. And the 2008 Enclave crossover bumps the Rendezvous and Rainier sport-utilities and Terraza minivan.
