All Jobs Aren't Created Equal:

Jobs would seem to be the obvious answer for the source of most income. But history bears out that anything obvious seems to sail right over our politicians heads, but let’s not count on them and start counting on ourselves, our family, and our friends.

So continuing with our thought, if the symptom is that Americans are running out of money and credit, then the problem must be a lack of jobs; more correctly, good jobs.

Our federal government gets nervous when lots of Americans are unemployed as it tends to make reelection a difficult proposition. But the greater problem isn’t unemployment, it is underemployment.

In the fourth quarter of 2007, the U.S. lost 17,000 jobs. That isn’t good, but the details are far worse. There were 27,000 jobs lost in the construction industry, 28,000 job losses in manufacturing and 11,000 jobs lost in the professional and business services companies.

Plum native helps Raggs go to riches

Now the characters who make up the hit kids television show "Raggs" have done a lot more for Ms. Steedman, a 1972 Plum High School graduate. After first emerging in Australia, the show has made it to the Public Broadcasting Service -- and into 40 percent of the media markets around the United States.

It isn't being aired on WQED in Pittsburgh yet.

Ms. Steedman (pronounced stedd-man) had thought that "Raggs" would be nothing more than a simple carpool story until one of her ad agency clients, a large regional mall, asked for an idea for a kids program. She reached into her memory bank, and the live "Raggs" format began in the malls. The rock 'n' roll-loving dog was mobbed by kids.

Raggs and the rest of the band went on tour and found a solid following among children and their parents.

West Virginia Radio Station Offers Free Valentine's Day Divorce for ...

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Charleston radio station is observing Valentine's Day with a reminder that Cupid sometimes misses his mark.

WKLC-FM, better known as Rock 105, is giving away a free divorce.

Valentine's Day isn't all hearts and flowers, says WKLC Program Director Jay Nunley. There is a darker side, he said, "where maybe you despise your spouse and resent the entire day."

Through 4 p.m. on Thursday, Valentine's Day, applications for the free divorce will be accepted on the classic rock station's Web site, www.wklc.com. The winning name will be drawn at 5 p.m.

Nunley cautions that this is a real divorce and people shouldn't enter if they aren't serious. Also, people expecting a long, drawn-out legal battle should hire a lawyer because the Rock 105 contest is for a relatively uncomplicated divorce.
